Dried Apricot Processing

Dried Apricot Processing

Mirsan Gıda processes Turkish dried apricots through controlled washing, drying, sizing, sorting, quality control and packaging stages.

Based in Malatya, Turkey, we follow a structured processing system designed to maintain product quality, hygiene, consistency and compliance with agreed product specifications from incoming raw material to final export preparation.

1. Dried Apricot Purchasing and Incoming Quality Control

All incoming dried apricots are inspected before purchase acceptance.

Products are evaluated according to our purchasing and quality requirements. Based on the inspection results, products may be accepted, conditionally accepted or rejected.

Incoming quality control is an important part of our dried apricot processing system.

2. Initial Washing

The dried apricots are washed using pressurized water and dedicated washing equipment operated by experienced personnel.

The process is carried out according to our operational hygiene and processing standards.

3. Precision Washing

A second washing process is performed to remove dust and foreign materials from the dried apricots.

The product is washed under hygienic conditions using water meeting drinking-water quality requirements.

This additional washing stage supports product cleanliness before the subsequent processing steps.

4. Initial Drying

After the precision washing process, excess surface water is removed using high-pressure air fans.

This stage helps control the moisture introduced during washing before the product proceeds to further processing.

5. Sizing and Grading

The dried apricots pass through sizing screens and are separated according to size.

Depending on the product specification, dried apricots can be classified into different size categories, including No. 1 to No. 8.

Sizing and grading help provide greater consistency within each product lot.

6. Initial Sorting

During preliminary sorting, dried apricots that do not meet the required physical quality specifications are separated from the main product.

Natural defects and processing-related defects are assessed according to applicable product specifications.

This stage helps remove unsuitable products before the final processing stages.

7. Final Sorting

Before the dried apricots are transferred to packaging, trained personnel perform a final detailed inspection.

Products that meet the required quality specifications continue to the next stage, while products that do not meet the required criteria are separated.

Final sorting is an important step in maintaining consistent product quality.

8. Laboratory and Quality Control

Quality control is carried out throughout the processing operation, including incoming raw material inspection.

Depending on the product and customer requirements, laboratory and quality controls may include:

  • •  Moisture analysis
  • •  Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) analysis for sulphured dried apricots
  • •  Physical quality inspection
  • •  Size and grading control
  • •  Foreign material control
  • •  Product appearance
  • •  Other agreed product specifications

For sulphured dried apricots, the SO₂ level is controlled according to the applicable product specification, customer requirements and destination-market regulations.

Our stated product specification provides for a maximum moisture level of 25%.

SO₂ and moisture requirements may be adjusted according to customer specifications and applicable regulations.

9. Drying and Conditioning

After washing, the dried apricots are transferred to the drying area to remove excess moisture introduced during the washing process.

The drying process is controlled to bring the product back within the required moisture specification.

This stage helps prepare the product for final quality control and packaging.

10. Final Quality Control

Final quality control is performed before packaging.

The dried apricots are checked against the applicable product specifications, including:

  • •  Moisture
  • •  SO₂ level for sulphured products
  • •  Size
  • •  Appearance
  • •  Physical defects
  • •  Foreign materials
  • •  Other agreed quality parameters

Products that do not meet the required specifications are separated.

11. Packaging and Cartoning

Finished dried apricots are packed under hygienic conditions using food-grade packaging materials.

Depending on customer requirements, available packaging formats may include:

100 g, 200 g, 250 g, 300 g, 400 g, 500 g, 800 g, 1 kg, 2.5 kg, 5 kg, 10 kg and 12.5 kg.

Packaging can be customized according to product type, customer requirements and destination-market requirements.

Packaging materials may include plastic packaging, foam packaging and corrugated cardboard cartons, according to the product and agreed specifications.

Finished products can be prepared for export on pallets or without pallets and transferred to the loading and storage area.
